Determine the effectiveness of your brand message
Keep up with how your brand online reaches and publicity is translating into sales and new customers. Conversion tracking is useful when you are running an ad campaign or just to see how well your reach is transforming to sales. With search engine optimisation, your website might be generating an impressive amount of clicks every time, but you need to be able to tell if these clicks are translating to sales, and that’s what conversion tracking does.
It is a powerful Google Analytics tool that will let you see how your ad campaign is generating sales, leads, email sign-ups, downloads, and other business actions. With this data, you can easily see the aspect of your campaign that is working, and the ones are not. This is very valuable information that you can use to improve your ads, optimise your ad texts, keywords, and bids to generate better results.
Your business will determine what counts as a conversion. It could be when a customer signs up for a newsletter, buys through your website, fills a contact form or online survey, downloads a whitepaper or app, calls a phone number, etc. You decide the actions of the customer that you consider to be Conversion, and after that, all you need to do is follow a few steps to activate the conversion tracking tool for your campaign.
Basic Setup of Conversion Tracking
For Google Ads, getting the conversion tracking running is simply by generating an HTML code in Google Ads and pasting the code into your website, specifically the webpage that customers will be transferred to immediately upon completing the Conversion. Examples include Order Confirmation or Thanks for Subscribing pages.
Getting started with the process is simple. Just select the Tools and Analysis tab in Google Ads, then click on Conversions from the menu. The All Conversions page will come up, and you can select the Conversions tab and click on the +Conversion button. Thereby creating your first Conversion.
A prompt will come up for you to fill a form which Google Ads will use to generate the HTML code that will be posted on the web page.
You can name the Conversion depending on what you are tracking. For example, if you’re tracking phone calls from visitors to the website, you can name it Phone Calls.
The next thing is to select your choice of Conversion which is between three options;
- (For businesses that want the customers to complete an action on the webpage, such as submitting a contact form, Page visit, or online purchase.)
- Call on-site. (For businesses that want the customers to call the stated phone number on the website from a mobile device.)
- App download. (For businesses that customers download an app.)
