Add Custom Command to "Data" Group, Instead of "Actions" Group

When you add a custom command to a screen, it'll usually be added to the "Actions" group.

To make it appear in the "Data" group instead:

  1. Switch to File View

  2. Edit the lsml file

  3. Locate the CustomCommand screen method

Modify the fragment to match below

  4. Save the lsml file, & reload the project designer

  5. The command now appears in the "Data" group

Thanks go to Jan Van Der Haegen, for posting this technique on his blog "Hacking LightSwitch".

Great post!
It's a pity such simple techniques can not be used to create new groups (besides Data and Actions). I described the long way on my blog (wp.me/p1J0PO-1s), but basic LSML edits would really be a nice feature.

Hi Jan! I'm so glad you posted here, I couldn't remember where I'd seen the technique. So now I can add a credit.

I was trying to do it several times and failed each time. But I have succeeded to do it by following your process.

I'd love to be able to claim it as "my technique", but it wasn't, lol. But I'm REALLY glad that finidng it here on my blog was able to help you though. I hope to be able to post many more helpful pices of information, once I've finished with the book.
